At the very edge of the afterlife, a night-shift convenience store hawks one last craving to each soul just before it crosses over, and every receipt is a prophecy no one is meant to read. A new clerk—an accidentally living girl—discovers that the items she stocks aren’t just comfort; they’re stitched from memories that should have been released. When her first overnight run requires her to ring up a return customer who never pays, she learns the “regular” is not a customer at all, but Death wearing a name-tag. As the register begins to count down to her own eligibility to cross, she must decide whether to serve the craving that keeps her alive or the truth that could unmake a bargain the universe has already signed.
